3DS Homebrew

learn about my experience with modding my 3DS console!

not to mention links & guides to resources that helped me!

So, YOU want to mod YOUR 3DS/2DS console? or...not & you just wanna see how I did it or check out the page (if that's the case, thank you!). Well, you're in the right place!

As a marginally tech savvy person--I found this process to be fairly easy. Though I definitely had moments I was like "WHAT THE FUCK AM I DOING!?!?", so do take what I offer with a grain of salt!!

Everything I will provide will be what will actually help you mod your console--I will not be giving a step-by-step tutorial! I've only modded 2 consoles, so I don't want to claim to be an expert or anything!!

Furthermore, I am not responsible if you brick your console. Now it is VERY hard with these processes in these guides to brick your console unless you were purposefully trying--but if you do happen to do so, uh...good luck! I hope you backed up your NAND!

Finally, I will try my best to keep things updated, but I highly recommend just sticking to the main guides & refraining from relying on videos. I found them useful as a visual learner, but these programs are being actively updated. These videos can go out of date fast--so please proceed with caution!

3DS HOMEBREW 101

what was the main guide you used?

3DS.Hacks.Guide!, it's the shit when it comes to modding your console! I will say I struggles traversing the site, but with it & supplementary content I will provide, I modded my console just fine!
I also used this video! (please remember these videos can go out of date due to updates--use with with caution)

what are the main programs you use?

The guide will tell you the main applications you'll need to have a well-rounded modded 3DS/2DS experience--but I use

TwilightMenu++

a DSi, DS, & GBA emulator

Amenone

a theme, splash, & badge manager

Univerval Updater

where you can download different applications or ROM hacks to enhance your homebrew experience!

uh...the-8th-letter-of-the-alphabet shop

I will not elaborate--use Google.
for more personal/fun applications, I have

Nimbus/Pretendo

a fake server for online gameplay--look up the Pretendo website to see what games you like they support!

NetPass

find people for Streetpass over the internet!

SNES9X

SNES emulator for the 3DS

CTGP-7

modded Mario Kart 7 (you have to own the original game) with new tracks, characters, & great online gameplay!

why did you mod your console?

After doing extensive research on 3DS modding, why wouldn't I? It adds SO much life to your 3DS & honestly drives me to play with it more. I can bond with other modded 3DS/2DS owners over Streetpass & Miiverse, I can play with people on Mario Kart 7 online in CTGP-7, & I get to finally play games I've never had the chance to touch!
I know it won't be for everyone, but my 3DS is so...genuinely me since I've modded it. I make my own themes, I have all these badges to decorate my home screen & folders, & I'm also not on my phone as much because of all I can do on my 3DS!
If you have the money, knowledge, & time--mod a 3DS/2DS. Plus if you already own another console in the family, breathe life back into it!! I modded my little brother's 2DS & he was ecstatic! I got him all the fanmade 3DS ports for FNAF 1-4 & got him some original DS games he's always wanted to play with TwilightMenu++!
Though if you're going to do it, do it soon, or search a while to find the best deals on a 3DS/2DS! They're getting really expensive due to rising nostalgia & modding capabilities, so get out there!

anything else you wanna tell us?

now you have to have Pretendo/Nimbus to accept me as a friend (a downside to the service), but my friend code is 2122 2052 2535! Please feel free to add me!
Also, they're not accepted yet on Anemone's site, Theme Plaza (also, personal note, their Discord is super not useful & they're highkey assholes if you ask for help), so if you want to add these themes I made, you'll have to do it manually!
You have to have anemone downloaded & a modded 3DS for this to work, but take your SD card from your console & put it in your reader for your computer/laptop. Take the downloaded file & make sure it's just a normal folder, not zipped. find the themes folder on your SD card & put it in there! It should work properly on your DS from Anemone! All you'll need is to download it through the application!
